About Us

In 2005, the Achilles Figure Skating Club, a long-standing member of the U.S. Figure Skating Association, and Upstate Skates, a member of the Ice Skating Institute, joined forces to create and form the Albany Figure Skating Club.

Based in Delmar, New York, the Albany Figure Skating Club consists of around 70 skaters from all over the capital region. Our Club has a tradition of helping athletes of all ages and abilities develop their skating skills by offering programs that benefit the lives of area youth, their families, and the community. Our home rink is at the Bethlehem Area YMCA in Delmar, New York. We also offer programs at the Albany County Hockey Training Facility and the Albany Academy Field House.

The Albany Figure Skating Club is a member of U.S. Figure Skating and Learn to Skate USA. Our Club offers several programs. A Learn to Skate group lesson program for those learning the fundamental skills and movements of skating. Freestyle Skating Sessions for those skaters who are practicing to compete in local and regional competitions and for U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned test sessions. Our Ice Show Exhibitions are open to the public and allow skaters of all ages and abilities to perform and entertain their families, friends, and the local community. Voluntary participation on local Synchronized Skating teams.

A volunteer board of directors leads the Albany Figure Skating Club, and dedicated volunteers chair and serve on our committees. However, we are different from many other sports programs in the area in that we are a small non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that does not receive any town-sponsored or grant assistance. Our primary sources of revenue are Club memberships, Learn to Skate lessons, Freestyle Skating sessions, Ice Show Exhibitions, proceeds from fundraisers, and donations received from generous individuals and businesses.

Our Mission

Albany Figure Skating Club’s mission is to provide our members with quality instruction in fundamental skating skills, opportunities to grow and develop as individual skaters, and enjoyable team skating experiences. To these ends, we require our instructors to have the appropriate credentials and experience, and we keep class sizes small. We offer educational workshops, an apprentice coaching program, skating clinics, ice shows, and special events for our members and their families. Finally, we have a Synchronized Skating program that teaches our skaters the value of teamwork and good sportsmanship, all while having fun!
